Is That Appropriate?
I really liked when we had the discussion about children’s films and we were talking about what is okay to show children and what is not because I had never really taken the time to think about it. Obviously, there are things that children should not see, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they should not be exposed to it. By that I mean that I think children should be exposed to concepts like death or sex or ‘adult things’ of that nature, but “are handled in an age-specific manner”(Changing Television: Why the RIght Does It Wrong). I think that there is an appropriate way to display these topics, and it would be through films like the ones we watched in class. If you would have asked me before the discussion I would have honestly probably just said “no, I do not think you should talk to kids about certain things”, but now I think that you should. I just think that there is an appropriate way to do it. I guess I just was not thinking of children as little people. I also think it would have been cool to have seen these as a child and then as I grew I would have noticed new things. I do that with other films, but these would have been especially cool to rewatch because I would have put the pieces together as I went through life.
