Fun Facts About Star Wars!

I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy and appreciate the films. This will be my last blog that I'll be doing, so I will talk about some interesting facts about Star Wars original trilogy that you probably didn't know.

• Yoda was almost played as a monkey. According to the book The Making of Star Wars by J.W. Rinzler, George Lucas originally planned for Yoda to be played by an adorable monkey wearing a mask and carrying a cane.
• Boba Fett's face is actually visible in the original movies. the actor who played Fett, Jeremy Bulloch, did stand in for an Imperial officer at the last minute.
• Return of the Jedi almost had a very different ending. In a story development session for Return of the Jedi, George Lucas toyed with the idea that after Luke removes dying Vader's helmet, he puts it on, proclaims "Now I am Vader" and turns to the dark side.
• "I have a bad feeling about this" became a running gag for the franchise. (You probably know this already).

• Yoda has no determined species. Yoda's species has never been names. A mystery, it is.
• Yoda is not a Muppet. Legendary Muppeteer Frank Oz voiced Yoda and Jim Henson oversaw his creation, but he was built by a member of Lucasfilm. So don't expect to see him at Kermit's holiday party.
• There are no female fighter pilots in the original trilogy. Even though female fighter pilots were in the original screenplay, they were removed from final cut. Now that's just sad. :(
• Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey share almost the exact same production crew. George Lucas admired Stanley Kubrik, and when he set out to make Star Wars, he hired so many people who worked on 2001: A Space Odyssey that the group was referred to as "The Class of 2001."

• David Lynch passed on directing Jedi. Acclaimed film director David Lynch passed when George Lucas asked him to direct Return of the Jedi.
• Darth Vader is banned from all official Star Wars events. David Prowse, the actor who portrayed Darth Vader (in form, not voice), is banned from attending official Star Wars conventions because George Lucas finds him annoying. Yikes!
• Chewbacca's voice is an eclectic mix of other animals. Chewbacca's voice is a mix of bears, walruses, lions, badgers and other dying animals.
• Harrison Ford almost wasn't Han Solo. Burt Reynolds was among the top contenders to play Han Solo, along with Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson and Christopher Walken.
• Empire Stricks Back uses the most stop-motion animation. Of all the films in the franchise, Empire utilizes the most stop-motion animation.
  

The Purpose of Music Videos

Popular music videos can spread faster than the black death in medieval times. Music does make a big impact through our society in negative or in a positive way even when we don't realize it. That's how powerful music is. But, why do we need music videos? What's the purpose of it? Why do we need to know that Miley Cyrus is sitting in a wrecking ball naked? Well, music videos are mainly for artist can elevate their song or album, so that people can listen to their latest music. Artist also use music videos to demonstrate visuals with sound and representation of the song.   

Black people weren't identified to the society until Michael Jackson came along. It was a big hit for the black community, it had build them confidence to come out and and shown them what their made of to the society and it was shown throughout. Billy Jean, was so popular that broke the barrier of avoiding the opinions that only white people can sing. Because of MTV, many famous black artist like Kanye West, Jay Z, Christ Brown, Rizzle Kicks, and many more, that is so great that now a days we can mix genres of music from different countries. 

    

If you don't like this song, you have to go and see a doctor right now. This song is pure awesomeness. Is WAY better than Let It Go. With this his, A-Ha became the first Norwegian band to have #1 in U.S. Moreover, the song reached #1 in 27 countries including Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Sates. It remained on top of the Eurochart Hot 100 for nine weeks. TAKE THAT ELSA! 

So yeah the purpose of music videos is for artist to be known to the world, it helps promote the band, providing a visual representation of the band, to invoke a reaction, and obviously, for a entertainment purposes.

Documentaries Are Educational

This first clip is an 1989 documentary film call Hell's Bell's-The Dangers of Rock 'N' Roll, is one of my favorite documentary films ever. One, because is super interesting and second I love rock. There is also a second one call Hell's Bell's 2 that was filmed in 2001 (I suggest you watch the second one. If you want). This documentary film examines the relationship of rock music to sex, violence, suicide, drug use, rebellion, miscegenation, the occult, and other activities considered immoral by biblical theology. The films is not trying to say that all rock or secular music is bad, but showing us of how does it effect on our society. Not only talks about how it affects our society, it talks about how secular artist get possessed on their music that looks that they are controlled by the devil. In the 1980s, National Review magazine says "Rock's sheer pervasiveness makes it the most profound- values sharper in existence today. Unless you are deaf it's virtually guaranteed that rock music has affected your view of the world." A musicologist who studied the affects on music on people noted, "It's a really powerful drug. Music can poison you, lift your spirits, or make you sick without knowing why."      

The Importance of Documentaries

Whether you are a hipster who likes to watch documentaries on obscure social issues or not, is crucial to understand and acknowledge documentaries as storytellers. Documentaries is kind of a wake up call the audience to know what's is going on around them. If you are passionate about movies, music, animals, books, or whatever, documentaries gives a perfect perspective on the individual.

Is important that documentary filmmakers proceed on using it to talk about social issues. They are doing a service when they are entertaining and informing us, even if you happen to dissnet of what the film is saying. Documentary film is one the most important mediums that can change and effect the whole world. The makers of television and movies are too concern about the profit, they are all about the money over the art. Since Documentaries are usually low budget films, they are less concern turning a huge profit, hence the ability to address important issues.

GAMES!

I don't have video games at home. One, because is too much money. Second,  if I do have video games, I wouldn't get anything done in life. Like NOTHING. So I only play PC games by either buying the game or just downloading them. But you know, hopefully when I save money or get a freakin' job, I will buy an Xbox or Playstation 4 with my own money.

There is a whole debatable topic about does video games can solve real world problems. For me, that is a yes and no answer. There are many strategy games just like the game Limbo that I have up front, and there are other games that are just for entertainment or enjoyment. People can say, "Oh yeah, video games is good for you because video games teaches you to have quick reflexes, how to mange your money, and how to work together as a team." And there are others that say that video games teach children the wrong values, causes violence, health problems, causes people to become socially isolated, and the list goes on and on. I think it goes both ways. We all know that too much on anything is not good, so there's gotta be a balance when it comes to playing video games. There is no right or word answer about the influence of video games that it has in our society. Furthermore, is important to know the positive and the negative effects on it.         

Staying a Virgin... For Life.

 This comic is called "Oglaf." Is a pornographic comic that degenerate a lot of sex comedy. Some of the comics are pretty safe and what I mean by safe is by not having any gay, lesbian, or straight sex drawings or talking about sex. If you like sex jokes this comic is right for you! The first comic strip I read from Oglaf was safe, there was no filters in it and it was interesting. After I clicked on the website I was like "WHOA! WHAT THE HECK IS THIS!" Now, I think that this comic strip has the most sexual immortality that I ever read in my entire life. I honestly love the artwork, I love the coloring and texture to it.  If this comic has the same medieval and fantasy theme and it doesn't have sexuality in it, I will it over and over again. Reading comics/graphic novels, movies, tv shows, fan-fiction, or even books that have some random sexual content, the more I wanna stay a virgin. I know, I know, I KNOW, that sex is a beautiful thing that God has created for a man and a women become one flesh and is better to have sex after marriage just how God intended. However I'm not buying it. I find the act of sex is disgusting and dirty... Plus, that is something that I would never want to experience. I believe that there are other wonderful things I can experience than sharing my organs with a man.

"Why Do I Make Less Than My Male Co‑Stars? 

When Lena first brought up the idea of Lenny to me, I was excited. Excited to speak to Lena, who I think is a genius, and excited to start thinking about what to complain about (that’s not what she pitched me, it’s just what I’m gonna do). When it comes to the subject of feminism, I’ve remained ever-so-slightly quiet. I don’t like joining conversations that feel like they’re “trending.” I’m even the asshole who didn’t do anything about the ice-bucket challenge — which was saving lives — because it started to feel more like a “trend” than a cause. I should have written a check, but I fucking forgot, okay? I’m not perfect. But with a lot of talk comes change, so I want to be honest and open and, fingers crossed, not piss anyone off.

It’s hard for me to speak about my experience as a working woman because I can safely say my problems aren’t exactly relatable. When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with dicks, I didn’t get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early. I didn’t want to keep fighting over millions of dollars that, frankly, due to two franchises, I don’t need. (I told you it wasn’t relatable, don’t hate me).

But if I’m honest with myself, I would be lying if I didn’t say there was an element of wanting to be liked that influenced my decision to close the deal without a real fight. I didn’t want to seem “difficult” or “spoiled.” At the time, that seemed like a fine idea, until I saw the payroll on the Internet and realized every man I was working with definitely didn’t worry about being “difficult” or “spoiled.” This could be a young-person thing. It could be a personality thing. I’m sure it’s both. But this is an element of my personality that I’ve been working against for years, and based on the statistics, I don’t think I’m the only woman with this issue. Are we socially conditioned to behave this way? We’ve only been able to vote for what, 90 years? I’m seriously asking — my phone is on the counter and I’m on the couch, so a calculator is obviously out of the question. Could there still be a lingering habit of trying to express our opinions in a certain way that doesn’t “offend” or “scare” men?

A few weeks ago at work, I spoke my mind and gave my opinion in a clear and no-bullshit way; no aggression, just blunt. The man I was working with (actually, he was working for me) said, “Whoa! We’re all on the same team here!” As if I was yelling at him. I was so shocked because nothing that I said was personal, offensive, or, to be honest, wrong. All I hear and see all day are men speaking their opinions, and I give mine in the same exact manner, and you would have thought I had said something offensive.

I’m over trying to find the “adorable” way to state my opinion and still be likable! Fuck that. I don’t think I’ve ever worked for a man in charge who spent time contemplating what angle he should use to have his voice heard. It’s just heard. Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale, and Bradley Cooper all fought and succeeded in negotiating powerful deals for themselves. If anything, I’m sure they were commended for being fierce and tactical, while I was busy worrying about coming across as a brat and not getting my fair share. Again, this might have NOTHING to do with my vagina, but I wasn’t completely wrong when another leaked Sony email revealed a producer referring to a fellow lead actress in a negotiation as a “spoiled brat.” For some reason, I just can’t picture someone saying that about a man."

Don't Let "True Beauty" Fool You

I love looking a celebrities without makeup because some look so freakin' ugly and some are normal looking. I think a few years ago they say that Jennifer Lopez was "the most beautiful women in the world," and I was like, "really? There are so many women are much prettier than J.Lo." She's 46 years old who looks 30 because of the amount of makeup that she puts on her face. Plus, she probably had a nose job during her years of fame. I know women wants to work out so they can get big boobs as Kate Upton or a big ass like Kim K. At the end, what's the point?



Whenever I flip through "In Style" or "Vogue" or any type fashion magazine I don't really get jealous over there nice tone body and perfect skin because I know is all photoshopped. In reality anybody can be beautiful as them and everybody can be a model. Technology nowadays is so advance that they can turn anybody into a beautiful swan.

Usually when we watch a short films in class, I usually find the films kind of boring.

Confusing (kinda like wtf moments).

I'm just being honest really. There was never a time that felt so uplifted and peaceful after I watch a short or stop-motion film.  Is ok to watch a sad and confusing film once in a while, but not every time. I'm kind of getting sick of watching those kind of videos. This is how I feel mostly all of the films that I've watch in that class overall. 

Animation Without Words

My comics/graphic novels, are usually without words mainly because I hate writing and I'm not much of a good writer. Sometimes visual storytelling doesn't have to have dialogues. You can understand the story by the facial expressions of the characters and the event that's happening. A film with minimum words such as Wall-E, are characterize by emotion alone Many people believe that animation without words will possibly be a new era of filmmaking. Animation films with less words or no words supports a great message, are colorful, enthusiastic, and gives a new animation technique. I think there should be more films and comics that have minimum words or none. For me, without words, will help me pay more attention of the art and a better understanding of the characters that portray in the story.

Animation Around The World

 

Why is animation a global industry? Well simply because everyone loves cartoons and cartoons travel around the world. Cartoons are meant to entertain children from all ages. A lot of kids grew up watching cartoons even watching the Saturday mornings. Sometimes cartoons are helpful for parents to keep kids quiet when they need to do their own jobs. Cartoons are also for adults can enjoy so they can sit around and relax and watch some adult swim cartoons while the kids are asleep. Cartoons and animated films are not made for the audience in one country. Cartoons are everywhere, with multiple languages. Usually animation work on massive projects is often outsource from other big companies and studios to bijou companies. For instance, South Park is animated in Korea.
The diversity in styles and techniques in animation varies around the world. The anime style form Japan had spread to America for the past twenty years, and it has been popular all around America ever since. Audience will the see the differences in ideas of which cartoons show in their show or movie. It is amazing that animation films helps the audience to introduce them new things and ideas to allowing them to be creative.

Appreciating Stop-Motion Films

What's is great about some children's media and stop-motion media is that they have great messages and lessons to children and adults. Doing stop-motion for children, shows the innocence and purity in the film. It also appreciate the artwork of the film and how dedicated was the artist who made it into a film. I found Tchou-Tchou a very cute and creative way to tell a story through blocks. I love how the turn their heads side by side, how the dragon can look scary but adorable at the same time, and the the scenery is made by blocks. This films gave me all these different kind of emotions such as fear, happiness, and sadness. The three stop-motion that I watched in class shows me that we as humans are made in the image of God. We are made to create. We are made to amazed an audience just how we get amazed of God's creation. What's also great about these three films was that they are all have message about creation. In the block children film, the artist doesn't want the audience to just watch the film but to participate in the film.
In The Sand Castle it showed all the creative energy and movement to the film. It did had a lot of Christian allegory. For instance, the Sandman is a God-like figure, by showing that he created all these different kind of animals to create a sand castle.

The Dark Side of Children's Media

Stephen King, one of the greatest writers of all time, writes constantly about his childhood experience with horror media. This gives us an incredible impression on King. Some of his horror novels are related to the horror stories that he had heard and seen as a child. Things that are strange, dark, and terrifying are found very attractive to many children. Moreover, children are meant to be curious and their hearts are full of wonder. But the question is why. Why does children want to experience something that parents have denied them? Why dark stories are forbidden to children?

Scholars and psychologist believes that horror fiction offers a form of release to all of the audience, not just for children. It is an outlet  in which we have to face our anxieties. In children's media and stories have a lot of themes/common anxieties such as child abuse, parental abandonment, cannibalism, loss of identity, adults as villains, getting lost, and abduction. 

The number one top main source of childhood nightmare is Disney films. In Snow White and The Seven Dwarves, it shows a scene where in the woods were very scary that Snow White was frightened and that she ran away. In Fantasia, Chernabog and his demons was jeopardize a small German town while it sleeps. And lastly in Pinocchio, the whole scene of Jackass transformation was creepy. 

  Disney films or any other children's media can provide kids a bit of film/animation history, but as we move up to Disney villains, it will introduce an idea of the corporatization of children's media. 

Animation Is Not Just For Children

There is always one or two pixar/disney scenes that have dirty jokes and offensive words that slipped by you the first time. We know that disney films are family fun and is for children for all ages. But there is some hidden scenes that are sexually inappropriate moments that adult can enjoy as well. Just like in the picture above, Kristoff ask Anna if she know's Han's foot size, this shows a popular myth about men with big feet. Which is basically having a big penis. 

An academy award film Aladdin has some dirty jokes but it had been offensive to women. People say that the script says Aladdin quoted "Good kitty, take off and go," but some have heard the line that said, "good teenagers take off your clothes."It was rather muttered but with some close listening. And after he said that, Jasmine open the curtains and looked shocked.

Here is another dick joke about Disney just giving us a visual penis pun on this quality.

This shows this scene that the characters assert that San Fran. is a bear-free zone. As for the adults who watched Inside Out, they know San Francisco is a thriving gay community and that bear in this context isn't referring a woodland critter. The Anger responded saying "I saw a really hairy guy. He looked like a bear."Is one of those scenes makes a little sense for a kid and way to much sense for an adult.  

Jesus' Appearance

Isaiah 53:1-3 says, "Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.  He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him."
When I was searching "handsome Jesus" on google images and I was cracking up. I never understand why the media puts Jesus as a white handsome man, with nice long think brown hair and perfect skin. For some odd reason the Jesus on the right reminds me of Bradley Cooper... 
Painters from Medieval Times simply painted Jesus as being white because they were white. They painted Jesus of having a very masculine face before the Renaissance. Experts believe that Jesus was purely white, but some painters made Jesus have darker tones because that was more convenient for the desert climate. The color white symbols and identifies as purity. Also since Christ represent the Lamb of God, a fluffy white lamb represent Christ's spiritual purity.
We can say that Jesus was very brawny because he was a carpenter. Carpenters have long tedious hours and heavy labor. They work with a lot of big logs of rough-hewn wood. But he kept his strength under control, to show how humble he is. The media most of the time wants an attractive main character. They think if Jesus is the main character of the story, he should be handsome. They believe it will attract the audience more than Jesus being an ordinary Jew. But in reality, Jesus was an ordinary Jew that He can blend in with the crowd, he was an ordinary Rabbi. He's was not handsome as Aragon or looked like Aragon, the Bible said clearly that there was nothing special about His appearance only His words and actions towards the humanity.    

    

The Significance of Myths and Fairy Tales

Many Christians believe that myths and fairy tales can be harmful and bad influence on children. They don't want to expose the children by seeing magic, witch craft, or evil demonic creatures. But in reality it delivers them a well- meaning of a Christian knowledge. The book that I read of Telling the Truth, talks about the gospel as a fairy tale. Buechner said, "That is the Gospel, this meaning of darkness and light and the final victory of light. That is the fairly tale of the Gospel with, of course, the one crucial differences from all other fairy tales, which is the claim made for it is that it is true, that it not only happen once upon a time but has kept on happening ever since and is happening still."(p.89) Myths and legends  can fall into the same category as fairy tells. Classical stories like the Chronicles of Narnia, The Legend of King Arthur, or The Little Red Ridding Hood, may not be myths, but children who hear or read fairy tales can learn about the christian faith. Usually stories teaches valuable lessons to the children. They teach how to be good, having good manners, and the consequences of people doing bad things. Tolkien says that fairy tales are specifically for children, but there essential to the society.

Fantasy/Fairy Tale is Non-Escapist

I posted this picture on Instagram because I really love how Alexander expresses fantasy. Lloyd Alexander is one the most influential writers in the 20th century. He wrote many fantasy/fiction books that supported his famous quote, and argued that fantasy doesn't evade life's problems and can teach the audience how to cope with tribulations in life. Lloyd found fantasy stories very valuable and complex, able to comprehend what it means to be a human, how we go face the good and evil in life daily, and knowing what's right or wrong. Tolkien and Chesterton wants the audience to go back to reality after reading the end of the story, they don't want the reader to stay in the fantasy world, but instead be re-energise with an understanding of the story.
Children and some adults think that fiction/fantasy/fairy tales, keeps readers away from nature itself. I think Lloyd is telling society that fantasy is a way of understanding reality, not being the exodus of reality. When Tolkien wrote The Lord of the Rings, he allegorized the ring as sin and Aragon as Christ. Tolkien didn't just write a simple story of all these different kind of creatures of Middle Earth. He wrote a fantasy story that had many allegories of the reality of truth, which is Jesus Christ.          The Rings series and The Chronicles of Narnia have a great theme of good vs. evil that we human beings face daily. We may not battle evil physically, but we do face it spiritually in our daily lives.

I found this Bible passage kind of humorous because of the way Elijah mocked the prophets of Baal and how absurd how they call out to their god. This passage is also unexpected because Elijah took twelve stones, made a trench around the altar, wood, cut the ox into pieces, and they fill the trench with water. Elijah just did one prayer and then God sent fire out of the sky onto the altar.

C.S Lewis' Imagination

I was just amazed after reading It All Began With a Picture because I can imagine Lewis looking at the picture of a Faun carrying an umbrella and parcels in a snowy wood,and saying to himself, "Uh... I could make a story out of this." So that one picture that he saw made him to have an epic idea to write an awesome children's book that made history. C.S Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien discuss with each other of how they should write their stories with a christian allegory. I realize that not only the characters of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has christian symbols, but the weather as well. I learned that winter means death and spring means new beginning. In the beginning Narnia was winter, and since winter was death I thought that symbolize as sin. The queen was taking over Narnia so everything was dark and gloomy. But when Aslan died and rose again, even before that, it was spring because it was a new beginning of the story. I love how Lewis comes up with ideas to write a story than just "make things up" along the way.
