Hedgehog in the Fog Revisited (+ C.S. Lewis)

Hedgehog in the Fog is a short film that is portrayed in a style that would be considered "animation for children." And how great it is h that that is the style Yuri Norstein chose to make Hedgehog in the Fog. A style that would be considered "for adults" would not have been a good style for this short. A live action hedgehog? Nope.

C.S. Lewis wrote "On Three Way for Writing for Children" and included "writing a children's story because a children's story is the best art-form for something you have to say." That holds true for films as well. Hedgehog in the Fog is not exclusive to children. Adults can watch it as well and enjoy it, perhaps taking something away with them when they leave. Our class is the prime example. We watched it and enjoyed it. We may be childish, but we're not children.

Personally, I took a couple things away with me after watching the short film. It stuck out to me that following one's curiosity into the risky unknown might not end in disaster after all.

Along with that, even though you might think that you know you are going to die (or less extreme: something will not end well for you), you could turn out to be completely wrong.

What wonderful things to learn at any age. Even though the medium may be a children's story, C.S. Lewis says that the medium may be the perfect thing for what you are trying to convey to every audience.
