The Greater Star Wars Debate

Ok.

I'm so glad we got to talk about Star Wars on Tuesday.

As I was reading "One Baaad Messiah", there was one random line that stuck out to me:" Indeed, he makes the squealing Luke Skywalker seem like a second-rate messiah."

Granted, this article was probably written before the prequels came out. But. Nowadays, can we consider Luke to be the messiah of the Star Wars saga? I mean, there's no doubt that there is definitely messianic themes throughout the original trilogy, what with Luke being the last Jedi and coming to the rescue when all hope is lost. BUT. In the prequel films, (you can hate them, but you can't deny them) Anakin is introduced as the Chosen One, the one destined to fulfill the prophesy. And he does, in Episode VI, when he throws Sidious off of the balcony. So I guess my argument is that Anakin was the messiah of the Star Wars saga, not Luke. I mean I'm not sure if people actually even argue about this, but I thought I'd put it out there. Thoughts?
