Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, led
by Bruce Gowers, released in 1975. His repeated TV broadcast caused not only
that his single was number one for, but that the song became the anthem of an
era irreplaceable, and that marked a before and an after in Rock music. The
clip is now considered "Mom" of such audiovisual format.
After
this overwhelming success, soon many other music videos were released, which in
consequence resulted in the creation of a cable channel devoted exclusively to
music broadcast 24 hours a day. I mean MTV, born on August 1, 1981 with a start
of four million subscribers. That number grew dramatically in the years
following. The first video shown was "Video Killed the Radio Star"
performed by The Buggles.
Video
clips produced in the 80s were colorful. Usually, they all had the singer in a
fairly simple set design, making cuts to get different shots of the singer.
