It is a little bit late, but I have been meaning to blog on the Johnny Cash Project. I grew up on Johnny Cash. I do not know what it is about people in the horse racing business, but we love old, folk country. I mean the kind where there is often more talking than singing. My Dad is a high school teacher and he always performs "Burning Ring of Fire" at the talent show with his teaching partner and his students just love it. Johnny Cash will always be my favorite country/folk artist. I think there is a lot of nostalgia behind my love for his music, but also because he was just such a talented man. I was really touched by the effort put into the Johnny Cash Project, particularly because it combined two things that I love (animation and Johnny Cash music) and allowed thousands of people from all over the world to come together to honor him and his music. It is a beautiful way to get artists to come together and make art while honoring the art and artist that is adored by all of them. Not to mention that the animation turned out to beautifully. It also served as a reminder that an obsession with perfectionism can really destroy an artist. Each frame was so unique and each and its own style. If people had been so worried about complete consistency between each frame the project would not have been nearly as beautiful, nor near as appropriate for honoring Johnny Cash.
