Yesterday I saw Pixar's newest film, The Good Dinosaur, and despite critics not really liking it that much, I have to say.... I LOVED IT!
It was a simple story, and although that's what it gets criticized for the most about, that is what I enjoyed most about it. So often I think we associate simple stories as bad and complex stories as good, but I think that is completely misjudging what good storytelling is.
One of my favorite thing about the movie was that there was little dialogue between Arlo the dinosaur and Spot the human. There were exchanges, but Arlo did all the talking, and in some cases, they just played off of each other in their actions. I enjoy scenes in movies that have no speaking. If they are done right, I think they are better than any dialogue someone could write. I cried twice in The Good Dinosaur, both in very emotional scenes with little to no talking.
Another thing I liked about the movie was that there were very few characters, which made them stand out more. Wall-e is another movie that does this. There's a lot of people (or dinosaurs in this case), but there's only a few characters that speak and play an important role.
Not to mention, the scenery was off the charts amazing! The mountains, the trees, the ground, the shrubbery, the clouds, and the water!!!! If you've ever tried 3d animating water, you'll have a great appreciation for the river.
Well, that's all I have to say about that. And it looks like this is my final blog post. Thank you Leeper, for such a great class. Looking forward to seeing you next semester. And to the rest of the class, thanks for being such cool interesting people.
I leave you now, with my best work...
Thanks for reading!
