'A Charlie Brown Christmas' 50th Anniversary

Today is the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas. It has stood the test of time and has become an iconic staple in holiday media in the United States and the world. It has definitely helped to form me into who I am today. I remember when I was in elementary school that I received the A Charlie Brown Christmas DVD for a Christmas gift. I watched it that day, and my enthusiasm for Peanuts began to develop. Shortly after that, I remember buying my first comic book for twenty-five cents at a second-hand store. The book was titled We’re on your side, Charlie Brown, and it’s publication date was 1959. My zeal for Peanuts took off from there, and I’ve since collected many Peanuts comic books and television specials. I have also become fascinated with Charles Schulz’s life and history and trivia about The Peanuts Gang.

A main reason why I really like the Christmas television special is because I emphasize with Charlie Brown. I am also frustrated with all the commercialism and materialistic aspects of the holiday season. Just like Charlie Brown, sometimes I feel like crying out, “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?” The lovely thing about A Charlie Brown Christmas is that this question is answered. As Linus profoundly puts it, Christmas is about the good news of The Messiah, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
