Movies with the Words of Music: Or Happy 75th Anniversary Fantasia

So I just got back for the best two hours of my life, watching one of my favorite Disney movies of all times, Fantasia. Now if you haven't seen Fantasia, see it right now and if you have, see it again. It has been one of the Disney movies that I can look up to as a masterpiece because of the blend of art and music, in fact this movie was the movie that made me want to go into some form of an art, but sadly with my drawing skills, I would be make the characters in the Night on Bald Mountain and Ave Maria cry and run for their lives.
Now that I am in control, let me play you the songs of my people.

Films like Fantasia are rare to find now a days because, we worry that children, won’t want to sit for a long time just listening to the music and watching the story that someone else has drawn out for them. We want movies that will make our children happy in the ways that they have someone speaking the stories to them and now them watching it and coming up with their own stories of how those characters came to be. The films like the many ones that we have watched in class (ones mainly without words), and ones that make me feel like I’m watching something from my childhood again, reliving a time where I could watch art come alive and never be pulled out of the story because I must follow one person's story.

Ten minutes into the Pastoral Symphony and Chill, and she's giving you this look

Well thanks for going through my moments of awe with this movie. I'm off to go watch the 2000s version on YouTube

Now I must DANCE!!!

  1. I'm really glad to know of someone else who really loves Fantasia. Fantasia also has given me an appreciation for music and art. I as well chose animation partly because of this film. Anybody who has not seen or does not like Fantasia, I'm sorry, but you don't know what you're missing. By the way, Linnea, did you know that Fantasia 2000 is on Netflix?

  4. Seeing Fantasia in theaters last Sunday was such an amazing experience. It's stunning how visually impressive it is, even after 75 years after its initial release. Fantasia truly is an artistic masterpiece.
