Gaming

My first 'real' job was one of the best times I've ever had. I worked in a small animation studio. Five o'clock in the evening was game time. Work ended officially and we played video games until six.
I've always had a love for games but for some reason playing video games is considered as a time wasting hobby whereas watching movies isn't even though it is basically the same thing- 'wasting' time.

I loved the video played class yesterday...minus the cursing. It gave a real insight into the pressures of developing an indie game and the personal meaning that goes into it. I think I can finally sit down to play a video game and not feel guilty afterwards.

It just seems like the views of gamers are all very negative. They are the young guys- well most gamers are guys- who waste their lives sitting on the family couch getting fat...or skinny considering you don't really feel the need to eat when you're drawn into a new world of gaming. So seeing it from a different side, where the game developers were seeing the games as having a chance for them to connect with thousands of people, caused me to think more deeply about the impact video games have on audiences and the 'conversation' that they bring to the media world.

  1. If video games are a waste of time, then so is every other art, along with anything else that doesn't directly educate or nourish you. You can survive without art, but you'd lose access to a lot of ideas and experiences.
