Click Bait! Gotcha!!
This blog has nothing to do with what I honest believe the next gen feminist should look like, it is not my place to have an opinion that has any weight. Instead I want to talk about a quote that Leeper quoted in class yesterday.
I missed the name of the woman who said it, but it was on the topic of having or not having an animation festival of woman works. Her opinion was that they shouldn't have it, because at least in the animation field woman have made big enough impacts that we don't need a festival of just woman's works. That really stuck with me. Why did this stick with me?
Well I am used to two kinds of feminist(this may just be my limited range of people I have relationships with) the first being the Female>Male FemiNazi, The type of feminist that whole heartily believes they are not human, therefor can do anything and would've done everything substantially better then men. Which hey I can't say for certain they'd be wrong, but they believe these things as fact, and people who believe a fictional universe is fact in this one scares me, so I'm not into the FemiNazi's to much.
The other type has varying intensities, but is the type of feminist that I believe can really do things for women, but may be behind the time. I am not sure what to label this kind of feminist Old School maybe? They believe women still have space to grow to be truly equal in rights and status as men. Which is completely true, but go about battling these injustices in an old school way, and can sometimes get caught up in the wrong battle. I think protesting, marches, and social movements aren't the type of strategy that will get very far for many of the places feminist want to get, and sometimes they get caught fighting for something trivial. For example I read an article a year or so ago, that a feminist battle was won after granting woman's access to a decent men's golf club, which I guess doesn't make it a men's golf club any more. In either case the subject seemed trivial and can give feminist a bad rep to be striving to fight for things that are arguably not about patriarchy.
The woman's quote that stuck with me is so awesome, because she represents something I haven't seen yet. Someone who is ready to prove woman equality, by leveling the playing feild. She says I don't need your special attention nor do you have to walk on glass when working with me. She says I'm here to prove that I can make great animation. It feels like a gender less statement. She can make great animation not because she's a woman fighting the good fight, but because she's a great animator, and I think that's the future of feminists.
Again I am no officianato of feminism, My only experience is my high school, tumblr and a few rallies in Chicago. If you read this and think I'm a narrow minded idiot, tell me allllll about it in the comment section.
You are a narrow minded idiot. Lol no I actually agree with your blog. I think it's pretty accurate.

ReplyDeleteI can really understand where you're coming from. As much as the Feminism movement in its purest form means well and is noble cause, I feel like it depends on where you go for your info. Tumblr is really good at pedaling hate towards the opposing side. Some people use Feminism as an excuse to vilify all men with no wiggle room to be in their good graces again. I don't think anger and stirring hatred is the best way to go. but, then again, Tumblr can be an anomalous, toxic place and its never a good source judge a group by. This is some good stuff you have here. :3
