Let's talk about movie score here for a second.
Think about any movie you've seen. Any movie at all. Now take the music out of it. How awkward would that be? When you're watching a movie you don't think much about the subtle background music. But you would notice if it was missing. You would also notice if the wrong music was playing. Like if someone replaced all of the score in Harry Potter with the score from Star Wars, you'd notice that something was off.
Movie score sets a tone to a scene. It brings you one step closer to that universe. I think a lot of the time movie scores are overlooked. That people don't really see how important it is. If all those action scenes in movies were backed with silence they wouldn't be as fun to watch.
Although there are times where music is deliberately cut out. I specifically remember in Frozen (do not judge me) where Anna sacrifices herself for Elsa and she is completely frozen, they cut out the music and all you hear is Elsa sobbing over her dead sister. I like that they took out the music for that moment. It makes it so much more raw and real. You feel the moment rather than music bogging it down.
Anyway. The use of music in films is important. That's all I really have to say about it.
