The Man Who Planted Trees is definitely my favorite animated film that we watched this year. For me, it was a great story that used the power of animation to enhance the viewing. Personally, it reminded me of listening to a storybook, read aloud to me by a Grandparent. It took me back to my childhood and almost drew me to tears at the end.
I saw a lot of Biblical parallels in the story with being in a desert place - sort of like the prodigal son. A spiritual wasteland, even. For the main character, the weary traveler, to find refuge in the home of a man living all on his own, in a desert and forgotten place, is really ironic. I think that the story is inspiring in the fact that something broken and forgotten can be made beautiful again, through the small actions of others.
