Simply Enjoy

English is easily my worst subject, so bare with me because the chances of me picking up on irony are very low.  Until I am asked if I understand the irony between A and B then I’m not going to see it.  Once it’s pointed out to me then I understand it, and I understand what irony is.  I just am simply really bad at picking up on it if I am reading something on my own, so just thought that should be said before I start.  In his Three Uses of the Knife David Mamet could totally be being sarcastic, but if he’s not I think he makes some good points.  He says “Dramatists who aim to change the world assume a moral superiority to the audience and allow the audience to assume a moral superiority to those people in the play who don’t accept the views of the hero.”  I can understand the point he’s trying to make.  However, his argument is that “it’s not the dramatist’s job to bring about social change”, and I think that it can be.  I think that there’s a time and a place for each.  I think it’s okay for art to just simply delight, but I also think that it should have more meaning and purpose to it than just that.  I do not know much about art really, but I am starting to appreciate it more.
