Bullshit: A Response

After listening to my roommate's speech on the topic of bullshit, I tend to agree with the fact that, yes, we need to always check our sources and be aware of yellow journalism. In today's society, everything posted on the internet is regarded as being true - with zero fact checking involved. For instance, with all the gun control mantra going around on the internet these days, I stumbled upon the following image and quotation, falling for the agenda as factual. However, I soon learned I was terribly wrong.

George Washington never said this, according to the Mount Vernon Organization. On their website, they slam the false quote:

"This quote is partially accurate as the beginning section is taken from Washington's First Annual Message to Congress on the State of the Union. However, the quote is then manipulated into a differing context and the remaining text is inaccurate. Here is the actual text from Washington's speech:

'A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well-digested plan is requisite; and their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories as tend to render them independent of others for essential, particularly military, supplies.'"

After reading and researching the quote, I soon found out the truth. You see, often times, people use memes, pictures, or false quotation to sway people with bullshit. After hearing Joe's speech, I too will no longer stand for bullshit, but, will stick around for real answers.
