In order to build up the hype for the holiday (and to warm up my hands before tackling the last bit of my history essay) i thought that i would list thanksgiving specials and the episodes in television or the films that can technically be considered as Thanksgiving specials all on their own.
Specials that either teach the true meaning of being thankful for the things God has given us and for what you have or to show that being friendly to your fellow man can turn up some good things.
Whether it'd be the time frame of the movie, the themes of being thankful for what you have or if it just has elements of thanksgiving in there, let's take a look at some specials. So in no particular order based structure that has anything to do with level of likeness or greatness, let's take a look.
Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
I'm going to start off with the special that comes into mind whenever i think of things that i use to watch during this time of year. It takes place during Thanksgiving, it talks about being grateful for what you have and who you are with and it has the whole fall feeling added on top to it. I'm surprised that i have yet to run into it on tv this year.
Charlie Brown Mayflower Voyagers
Surprise! Another Charlie Brown Special! But this one is one that i consider as a thanksgiving special because it's basically the Peanut's interpretation/retelling of the historical events of the Mayflower coming to America. It actually shows the hard travels from Europe to North America and shows how the pilgrims and native americans met and built settlements here. In fact, there is a legit thanksgiving dinner that is show near the end of the special. So if you need more Peanuts to fill your holiday and history quota, here you go!
Free Birds
Thanksgiving time frame, turkeys escaping death and George Takei as a time machine.
I have yet to see this film, but it's an attempt to make a memorable thanksgiving special for kids in modern day.
(Throws out brownie points)
Rocky (the original)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0MGxajfCcM
People tend to forget the part where Pauly tries to kick Adrian out of the house on Thanksgiving by throwing the turkey out into the alley way in order for her and Rocky to have their first awkward date together. This one always pops up this time of year on tv so i try my best to watch some classic Rocky during the holidays.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Time frame: Starts after Halloween, ends at Christmas. One of the centeral themes is about being thankful for what you have and who you are. Therefore, Nightmare Before Christmas is the best stop motion thanksgiving film ever.
Spiderman (2002)
Remember that one scene that had the awkward dinner scene with Norman Ozborn slowly becoming suspicious at the fact that Peter Parker could be Spiderman? Yeah, that all took place on Thanksgiving. They were having conversations about cranberries full on while Peter was trying to hide his secret identity.
Pocahontas
Because relationships between Indians and pilgrims! And some Thanksgiving-y themes.
Trains, Planes and Automobiles
Because it's a classic that takes place during the busiest travel day of the year and has all of the Thanksgiving feels and themes. Nothing quite like this while trying to come home for the holidays!
See ya later! And have a great holiday! :)
Pardon my nitpicking, but Pocahontas has nothing to do with the pilgrims.
