Hey everyone!
So, last week I went to see Mockingjay part 2. It was good, but don't worry, I won't spoil anything. Watching it just got me thinking again about now-popular trend that Hollywood has adopted of making movies out of book series (which is great) and splitting the last book into two separate films (not so much). And I just keep asking myself, WHY?!?
I'm sure that there were companies that did it before, but it seemed to really start with Harry Potter. Then it snowballed with Twilight, Hunger Games, The Hobbit (split into not two, but three parts), and it's gonna happen with Divergent. For some of theses sagas, the last book isn't even the longest. It doesn't make sense to split just the last book. Wouldn't it be awesome if they split all of the books in half, and didn't leave out a single detail? But that would be really impractical. I would bet that in most cases, it's probably money. If companies can drag the series out a little longer to squeeze as much money out of the people as they can, why not?
Because we run into the problem of the 'part 1' being nothing but a two-hour build-up to a part 2 that we have to wait a year for.
I guess sometimes it can be cool, watching our favorite books get more time on the big screen, but I kinda just find it annoying.
Here's the link to an interesting article on the subject:
