Quiz Essay 2

The Man Who Planted Trees was made by Frederic Back, a prestigious German animator. The story Back weaves over only fifteen minutes is astounding: he tells of a desolate village, a barren valley, an ever-progressing world, and the one old man that was left behind. This old man dedicated his entire life to giving life to this barren valley by planting trees. The power of animation allows us to see his progress over 20 years, learning more and more about the old man and how he revived the entire village around him with a walking stick and some seeds.

Not only is this piece beautiful and unique in style, it also tells a very inspiring story that, to some, was very inspirational. The Man Who Planted Trees reminded me of the beauty of nature and to never underestimate the power of the individual. Earlier on in the school year, I decided to join the horticulture club. Now you're saying, "But James, you don't know squat about planting!" First of all, how did you know that? Second of all, I joined because I have this love from growing things and watching things progress, and I think that's why this Back piece really hit home for me.
