Don't Minuscule Your Documentary Pallet

Documentary filmmaking is my dream job, so I was, needless to say, excited to read this article. The thing about documentaries that I love so much is that you are often thrown into some place and told to tell its story through film. That opening and freedom you have to tell a story excites me so much. Documentaries are what inform the people back home about where you are and what is happening. Often times we find documentaries that are about the misfortunes of those in other countries and what is happening. Though true, I feel that the other types of documentaries often go unrecognized or unappreciated. Just because a documentary is not about a public issue or problem, that doesn’t mean that it has less merit or accreditation than a documentary that does. For me, I love a documentary that takes you for an adventure to some magical place. Those documentaries where the only people that have been on the location are the film crew making the documentary itself, are what makes the adventure crazy to watch. Those types drive my love for filmmaking and storytelling because you have this amazing location to film and you have to make an even better story from it. Now, I’m not saying that I that the public issue and awareness documentaries are bad by any means. In fact, I love seeing the rawness that comes from these types of documentaries. What I’m saying is that I think we need to make sure that we don’t minuscule our pallet of what types of documentaries we watch.
