Since we have been on the subject of Children's Media, a video that caught my attention was Circuit Marine. Something that I find interesting about children's films is how we view these films now then when we did when we were children. We loved films and movies as a kid because they kept us entertained and were funny or cool. Now as we look at children's films we may see the funny or cool side of them, but we look for so much more. We look for the symbolic meaning, message, or what the film is trying to convey(if anything). I believe children films are made to catch the eyes of young ones. They are not made to convey a deep meaning, but made to entertain or maybe teach a life lesson.
Circuit Marine shows pirates, a captain, a cat, a dog, and a fish. This movie shows a cycle. The pirates and the captain eat and then thrown out their bones. The cat then takes their bones, licks it, lets the flies feed off the bones, killed the flies, and feeds the captain’s fish. Once the fish gets fat enough for the cat’s content, he then eats the fish. Children may find this funny, or even sad. However, the cat gets what it deserves in the end by dying in the sea. Although the captain is angry that his fish is dead he realizes that his cat has died also and becomes very sad. As adults we may begin to pull ‘deeper meanings’ from this film. However, this children’s film may just be for children’s entertainment. This can cause you to question, what are you talking out of children’s film? What are children’s films really made for?
