The fight for creative freedom

The film we watched in class Thursday was without a doubt one of my favorites and one I found most moving.

In the film you watch a child being filled with knowledge as he ages. As he grows it is evident that he comes across a variety of experiences. The child develops his own sense of identity as he discovers his music taste, pornography, science, art, etc.. The film pauses on things he specifically finds interesting. However the horror comes when he see that all that lies ahead of him is a meaningless void of these individuals morphing into the same product of an "adult". The students fight back for freedom over their own creative minds. I can see this as a message to children and adults alike. The adults could see it as a message to stop limiting children and allow them grow into who they desire to become. They could also find themselves lost after seeing this film, wondering if they are a sellout like the adult figures in the film. Kids would likely see this film and be warned to not necessarily revolt against their teachers, but to understand and appreciate knowledge for what it is. Kids these days do not like school. They like learning. Kids would be much more eager about learning if it was presented in the right way. There is the never ending complaint about "careers" and how it is a bit wrong to tell a kid they must decide on one job they will do for the remainder of their life. So I think this film sends a message to kids to not allow the system to mold them into the shape they want them to be. I think it is telling kids to experiment and learn new things and appreciate life.
