I've taken a few days to think about and process Yuri Norstien's films that we watched in class. I've mostly just been wondering why these are considered the best animations of all time. The one that stuck out to me the most was the sand animation. It's stories like this one that I remember more: stories without words, only actions. Narratives like this can be universally understood without the distraction of dialogue, which can be very distracting if it's in another language.
That's not to say that stories with dialogue aren't good. Hedgehog in the Fog was another animation of Norstien's that I really enjoyed. Even without the subtitles, I think I would have understood the story just as well.
Though I don't know why they are considered the BEST, I can see how they would grow on you over time. Maybe I'll look back on it in a few years, and see that it's even better than the first time I saw it.
This is a cartoon called The Reward from Sun Creature Studios. It also has no dialogue.
