Ok, let's talk about Pleasantville. First of all, I really enjoyed it. I love pictures and films that play off of color. Having only important things in color makes the film so striking visually. Also the fact that the characters are aware of what's in color is interesting. But I was somewhat confused about what was going on in general. Maybe I was too distracted that Tobey Maguire was in it or the fact that I haven't watched the rest of the movie made me miss what Professor Leeper was trying to explain about the film.
So what I guess I understood is that in the garden scene, that was supposed to be related to the Garden of Eden, and Bud and the girl were sowing the seeds of their own demise... or something like that? Most of the other couples were in color, but they were both still in black and white. So, is being in color bad of frowned upon? The malt shop painter guy seemed to see it as beautiful (which it is), and he really wanted to be in color. Could someone please help me understand why we watched this film? And how it relates to tragedy? I'm missing a lot of the symbolism and it's really bugging me.
Thanks for reading! Please leave some comments! And God Bless!
