I hope you are having a great week so far!
I found a lot in class very interesting. I know we have talked about Fridge a lot, but I want to say that I thought about it in a different perspective today. It is a tragedy and not because of the boy in the fridge, but because of the rich people behind closed doors in that society. I completely agree with that because even people in our society who are of lower class are living a tragedy while people who are wealthy are closing their doors and not helping and that is an awful society. I know that not all wealthy people are like that, but we all know some people that would turn their backs and not help in a situation like this.
Kind of to change the subject, the film Pleasantville Tree of Knowledge was by far my favorite film we have viewed in class. I love the multiple ways of thinking and the very powerful questions created by this film. I loved how it started with only certain items in color like the book of art then how it all tied together. For instance, the first image in the book was the naked and afraid Adam and Eve cast out of the garden ashamed and the Tree of Knowledge with the apple at the end. One question I gather from this would be that maybe it is how you view things that makes them in black and white or full of color?
Image is completely everything still to this day whether it be walking into a job interview or a Walmart. People are judged based off looks and everyone has their own idea of that person's life by just taking a good look at them. They say always look good for a job interview because first impressions are everything, but it is also the image. People judge so hard now a days and to be living in this society is actually embarrassing.
There is a quote by Robin Willams that kind of sums up my whole thought about these films in class lately.
"I think it its great when stories are dark and strange and weirdly personal."
-Robin WilliamsI think this quote explains my thoughts and feelings because these stories are dark and kind of strange and they might have weird messages behind them, but they are kind of personal because our society has a lot going on and its chaotic sometimes so we shut people out of our lives like the fridge film when the rich people slam the doors and close the blinds. In Pleasantville it has a personal message too because we view the world as so dark sometimes and everything is going wrong because it is easy therefore, we need some colorful moments in our lives that sometimes we strive so hard to accomplish.
All in all, I really liked the thought provoking film today and the questions that followed.
