I've always been interested in movies and the way media can impact an audience. I think I have always been captivated by films (especially animated ones) because I've always wondered what was happening behind the cameras. Trying to figure out how the films were made and observing the techniques in the film that really brought it out, is usually what goes on inside my head while watching movies. I have also been very keen on wanting to learn film to use it as a means to tell the world about Christ. One fit a really deep message into a 5 minute film without words and it will have way more impact on a human being than maybe saying the same message with words.
These first few classes have been pretty thought provoking for me as a result. It was really interesting to discuss the way we as Christians have used films so far to witness and the reasons why it may not be an effective way. One thing that really stood out to me was the statement that Christians sometimes portray themselves as having it all together and knowing all there is to know, adopting a mindset (or being mistaken with having the mindset) where they are better than 'those sinners'.
It got me thinking why these films might be giving this message, how do we show a love for unbelievers while showing them Christ and what the Bible says. And should we be so concerned about the way the world views us saying that Christ is truth and all else is lie? Because sometimes the Truth is hard to swallow and no matter how lovingly we state it people will still reject it.
