Alana Bates

Hello, Everyone!

My name is Alana Bates. I am a History and Animation major at Huntington University. I love learning about the stories of people from all around the world at different time periods, and seeing how they connect to the world today. I would like to take what I know from these stories and apply them to story telling to current and future generations. I love animation, and I like to think of God as The Animator. I would like to learn how to animate the motion I see in nature and apply it to how I tell my stories.

My interests include Japanese language, culture, history and animation. I studied Japanese for two semesters before studying for a month in Japan this past summer. It was such an indescribable experience, and I hope to go back to study again soon. My dream is to move to Japan and tell stories that can move, heal and entertain the people there.

I love Ghibli movies, but also am a huge admirer of Shaft and Bones animation works. My favorite show is Cowboy Bebop for its remarkable story telling and character development. I would love to learn how to tell a story like that! I also love movies such as Amélie, Submarine, and The Departures. I also love exploring different genres in music because I have seen and heard how much an amazing soundtrack can do for a film or animated picture. I love to share my interest, but I also love to learn about other's. So please feel free to share your favorite stories, movies and music with me!
