Heavy Films

The short films Un Jour and A Feather Tale are so powerful and spoke to me on such a level that I was in a funny mood all day. It is important in this day and age, with the media making sex into something so important and yet so casual, to make films about the consequences that come from such a contradictory and terrifying way of thinking.

Un Jour is relatable to both men and women, but I can see what Professor Leeper meant by a story only a women's perspective can give. I was really at a loss for words when the film ended. The message seemed to me, "Hey, you can make sex into something casual and without real meaning, but it takes something away from you that you can never get back." What a powerful response to the message our culture is trying to cultivate.

A Feather Tale was pretty difficult to watch, as it should have been. It approached rape tastefully even though it did not necessarily need to. The film was mostly, from my perspective, about the feelings of vulnerability, helplessness, and humiliation that a victim feels. I think it can provide healing for people who have been through similar circumstances and also help express feelings that need to be felt after something so horrible. In so many cases, people feel they should hide their emotions when really the healthiest option is to talk about it and let it out.

All in all, the films were difficult to watch, as many heavy films are. However, the messages were important.
