Telling Your Story Through Another

If art is really a reflection of who we are, then it should express some things about us. It is said that some of the greatest stories ever told are part of seven master plots of literature. According to Christopher Booker, an author and historian, these seven "master plots" are as follows: overcoming the monster, rags to riches, the quest, voyage and return, comedy, tragedy,  rebirth, and the precursor.

If this is true, then each and every author is using a form of one of these plots throughout their piece of literature. Therefore, how can we be unique with what we publish? In class the other day, we discussed the importance of creating real art by telling our feelings and emotions, through what we publish in our pieces.

In order to tell a proper story amongst these "master plots," an author or producer needs to include their feelings or experiences through one of the main characters. Whether it be a character loses someone close to them or perhaps a weakness that the author can relate to, in order for an audience to connect they need to be able to relate.
