Nard Pugyao. A Wycliffe missionary helicopter pilot. An ordinary man with an extraordinary story. Today, September 24, in chapel Pugyao spoke. He wasn't much of a pastor, but his story is a service of its own. A missionary came to a Philippians village, where Pugyao happened to be living. Pugyao was a very young boy at this time. This missionary worked hard to give this village the Bible is their language. This was in the year 1956, almost 60 years ago. This village had no idea who God was at this time, isn't that sad? Pugyao continued talking about his story, such as how he came to Christ and how this one missionary that came to his village effected his life. The missionary took Pugyao back to the United States with him and put him through college. After college, he married his wife and they both joined the Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1977. In 1982, Pugyao traveled back to his village in the Philippians with boxes full of translated bible. He described the joy everyone felt when they were able to hold a copy of the bible in their language!
Pugyao's story amazed me in the aspect of what we take for granted. We hear often that we are lucky to have freedom with our religion. But when I hear stories of people that aren't even able to have a bible because they can't read it in their own language, that breaks me. There are still thousands of languages that are in need of translation. We are so blessed to be able to read, understand, and connect with the Bible we have. We take this for granted. If one missionary can make a difference in a whole village, can you make a different? This one missionary effected a village, which included Pugyao. Pugyao is now able to influence many others with his life changing story. It's amazing who God can work through. Ordinary people can do extraordinary things.
